Cameron's World

GeoCities was a web-hosting service that made it possible for people to build their own homepages. During the 90s, users from all over the world created personalised corners of the Internet.

Cameron’s World brings together archived material from thousands of these sites.

In an age where we interact primarily with branded and marketed web content, Cameron’s World is a tribute to the lost days of unrefined self-expression on the Internet. This project recalls the visual aesthetics from an era when it was expected that personal spaces would always be under construction.

Coevolution Ecology

I'm a big fan of this guy in general. I think this video hows his interesting perspective on species interactions. It changed my understanding of invasive species and gave me more hope for the world.

Air BNB Shady Dealings Research

Mariana has been uncovering AirBNB's shady dealings including paying protesters to come from LA to oppose a tax on vacation homes in San Diego. Read her story here.

Hey Mariana, below is the report for the campaign contributions.

“Airbnb” never appears by name as a donor or payee in these campaign finance records. Instead, their presence shows up indirectly through California Strategies LLC, the lobbying and public affairs firm that represents Airbnb in San Diego.

Three people listed as California Strategies employees — Craig Benedetto, Marshall Anderson, and Ben Haddad — show up repeatedly making personal contributions to San Diego City Council and City Attorney candidates. Under California campaign finance law, individuals can give directly; the firm itself cannot. So the lobbyists give personally, and their employer affiliation is what ties them back to Airbnb.
